Rugby playoff

The defending provincial champion Lep/Tigers host the St. Albert Rugby Football Club in the Alberta premier women’s semifinal today at 2 p.m.

The Lep/Tigers (9-0, 548 PF/57 PA) placed second with 45 points and SARFC (4-4-1, 336 PF/269 PA) finished in a three-way tie for fifth place with 27 points in the 10-team premier table.

The four Calgary Rugby Union teams played 12 matches and the six Edmonton Rugby Union teams had nine matches so the semifinalists were determined on percentages involving point totals and total possible points. The Calgary Rams (7-5) were third in the premier table but fifth in the playoff rankings at 58.33 per cent.

In the premier fixtures, SARFC took it on the chin 72-20 against the Lep/Tigers on July 28.

The provincial final is Sept. 25 at Calgary.
