Worker killed by bus on Redwater job site

A 59-year-old man was killed during a workplace incident in Redwater, Atla. early Wednesday morning.

The North West Redwater Partnership employee was struck and pinned by the Diversified Transportation coach that had just dropped him off at the Sturgeon Refinery at around 6:30 a.m.

The man was seriously injured and transported by STARS air ambulance to the University of Alberta Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

The incident has prompted an investigation by Alberta Occupational Health and Safety.

NWR spokesperson Shauna MacDonald said the company is co-operating fully with the investigation and expressed her condolences to the family.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and the loss our colleague's family has suffered. Our focus is to provide them with the support they need at this very difficult time,” she said.

The RCMP indicated in a media release that it would not be making a decision regarding the possibility of charges until the OHS investigation is completed.
