A 24-year-old Edmonton woman is dead following a two-vehicle collision early Sunday morning southeast of Morinville.
“Upon arrival, we were advised that the female (driver) of the car lost control,” said Const. Yelena Avoine. “The road conditions were really icy at that time and the fog (affected visibility).”
RCMP responded to the collision on Highway 37 near Range Road 250 shortly after 7 a.m. and found both vehicles still on the roadway. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
She was the lone occupant of a westbound Ford Taurus that collided with an eastbound Nissan Frontier driven by an adult male from St. Albert, Avoine said.
The male was the lone occupant of the truck and was transported by ground ambulance to an Edmonton hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
“He was able to talk to one of our officers before he departed in the ambulance,” Avoine said, adding he was on his way to work when the collision took place.
She said there were no witnesses, other than the male driver, and said alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the collision.
RCMP shut down part of the highway Sunday morning to investigate the collision. The collision remains under investigation pending a report from the medical examiner.
