Are you comfortable around horses and are you interested in helping children and adults with disabilities to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of recreational horseback riding? In an hour-long class, a horse handler will lead a horse while the rider participates in the class. The side walker will walk alongside the horse and lend physical and/or emotional support to the rider during the lesson. Volunteers can also help in the barn before and after class, grooming and tacking horses, but this is not required. Spring session starts April 4 and runs for 12 weeks. Experience with horses or people with disabilities not required. Minimum age is 14 years.
Do you knit or crochet and enjoy giving to others? Volunteer in the comfort of your own home and make items that can be sold at our local hospital’s gift shop. Yarn is supplied. Monies raised from the sale of the items go towards an annual donation to the hospital.
This program is a weekend retreat for teens aged 13 to 17 years that have a parent living with multiple sclerosis. Program needs enthusiastic male volunteers to accompany staff and teen participants for a weekend retreat to Gull Lake, May 28 to 30 where they will assist in outdoor recreation activities and food preparation. Volunteers must be a minimum 18 years of age, energetic, enjoy working with youth and be willing to have fun.
Want to have some fun while helping to raise money for a great cause? Then volunteer with this organization that sells bright yellow daffodils to help raise money to support the fight against cancer. On Saturday, March 27 volunteers needed to sell daffodils to the public at the St. Albert Walmart location. Shifts are two to four hours long.
This vibrant community’s 150th anniversary is in 2011 and planning is under way for yearlong celebrations that will cherish the past, honour the present and ignite the spirit of the future. Volunteers still needed to chair the homecoming subcommittee, as well as sit on the following subcommittees and help plan the celebrations — river valley picnic, youth, volunteer co-ordination and partner/operations support. Caring, dedicated and mature people are needed to provide front line support, information and referrals to victims, families and others affected by crime or tragedy. Help this organization to help others in a time of crisis. Volunteer should have the capability to work with the RCMP as well as have the availability to work evening shifts and be on call for some weekend shifts.
