Dec. 5 is International Volunteer Day, a day for the whole world to recognize the valuable contribution volunteers make each day. Volunteer and make an impact in your community. The St. Albert Community Information & Volunteer Centre has many volunteer opportunities to choose from and can help find the right fit for you. For information on any of the following volunteer opportunities, call 780-459-6666 or visit the website www.govolunteer.ca

In this upcoming season of giving, volunteer to support this organization that helps so many in need all year. From Nov. 19 to Dec. 24, 2010, help accept donations at various St. Albert locations. Shifts are three hours each. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Are you a compassionate person and enjoy seniors? Volunteers needed in a local seniors’ home to help residents with meals. Feeding assistants needed for all meals and any day of the week, but most in need of help on the weekends.

Join the team that walks/rides with pride and purpose. Citizens’ Patrol, in partnership with the RCMP, is recruiting volunteers to help deter criminal activity in our community. Members patrol in pairs, are non-confrontational and wear highly reflective vests during patrols. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and must be able to pass a police check. Shifts are two hours each, twice a month.

Are you personable, patient and relate well to seniors? Volunteer to call bingo at a local seniors' lodge on Monday or Thursday afternoons.

Help this organization grant wishes to create hope and happiness for children with life-threatening illnesses. You can help grant wishes in many ways, making the wish experience as unique as each child and the experience a lasting and memorable one for each wish family.

Are you a friendly and pleasant individual who would enjoy doing reception duties in a St. Albert office? This is a short-term, four-month position. Half day shifts available Monday through Fridays. Choose one or more shifts if you’d like.

Help this organization help others in times of crisis. Caring, dedicated and mature people are needed to provide short-term crisis intervention to victims, families and others affected by crime or tragedy by providing front line support, information and referrals. Volunteers should have the capability to work with the RCMP as well as have the availability to work evening shifts and be on call for some weekend shifts.

If you are a people person with good public relations skills and are comfortable handling cash and operating a cash register, consider volunteering in our local hospital’s gift shop. Commitment is once a week, with various shifts available.
