The St. Albert Community Information & Volunteer Centre has many volunteer opportunities to choose from and can help find the right fit for you, even if you are not sure of what that might be. Help this organization to help those in need by driving to pick up a food order in north Edmonton, then driving it to this organization in St. Albert to be sorted and distributed. Volunteers only need to drive the goods, but it would be helpful if they also help sort. Commitment is on the third Friday of the month.

This vibrant community’s 150th anniversary is in 2011 and planning is well under way for year-long celebrations. Volunteers are needed to sit on the operations support, partner support and the volunteer recruitment and co-ordination committees. If you have planning experience in these areas and some time to assist, call and join the team.

Help and have some fun at this family-friendly Halloween-themed bowling fundraising event in support of this organization that helps children. Event takes place Sunday, Oct. 24 at Gateway Entertainment Centre, where registrants bowl in Halloween costumes. Volunteers greet participants, take in pledges and pledge forms, count money and assist with set up and take down.

Do you have strong communication and analytical skills, and can you work well independently as well as in a team setting? As a committee member, you will read and assess requests for United Way funding, and work to understand the impact being made by the funded programs. Knowledge and/or experience in the human services sector or experience with audited financial statements would be considered assets. Volunteers must have access to a vehicle and be able to attend evening meetings in January and February of 2011.

Are you friendly, patient and like to be helpful? Interact and socialize, one to one or in group settings, with residents in this retirement home. Activities could include visiting and discussions, reading books, writing letters, playing cards, going for coffee, going for a walk, etc. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and the ability to speak French would be an asset.

Are you empathetic and compassionate and do you enjoy driving? Drive a small 20-passenger bus for a local lodge and take seniors on day trips during the week. A class-4 licence is required and you must be a minimum of 21 years of age.

This beer and art festival takes place Friday, Oct. 15, and Saturday, Oct. 16 at the Mayfield Trade Centre and helps to raise funds for kidney disease. Possible volunteer roles include ticket sellers, security, merchandise, and greeters, with several shifts to choose from. You must be 18 years of age.
