Police are warning residents to remove all valuables from their vehicles after vandals smashed the windows of more than 100 vehicles in the last two weeks.
St. Albert RCMP Const. Janice Schoepp said more than 20 of these reports surfaced Monday morning following an overnight crime spree in the Oakmont, Erin Ridge and Sturgeon neighbourhoods.
“There could be some people who had some vandalism done or something taken and they haven’t reported yet and we’re encouraging them to do that because that helps us identify trends,” she said.
The vandals are smashing windows of parked vehicles – parked both on the street and in driveways – and stealing anything of value and anything that was easily accessible.
“In some cases, there’s been some change (stolen), others there’s been some kind of electronics, I think even a paintball gun in one case,” Schoepp said.
She said she couldn’t comment on whether police have any suspects in the break-ins and said she isn’t sure if the same person or group of persons is responsible for all offences.
Schoepp said vehicle break-ins have been reported throughout the city.
