Two people were killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash just north of Morinville.

Little was known about the accident on Tuesday afternoon before the Gazette went to press, but Morinville RCMP Staff Sgt. Mac Richards did confirm the collisions happened around 2:30 p.m. on Highway 2 and that two people had died.

Officers at the scene told the Gazette it appeared one vehicle was travelling the wrong way in the southbound lanes of the highway and that there was a head-on collision.

The two vehicles were a grey Volvo and a red Dodge Caliber. Both of the occupants of the vehicles were male and both were travelling alone.

Speaking less than an hour after the accident, Richards said little was known about the age or hometown of the deceased. He said both were declared dead within minutes of the accident.

Accident investigators were also just arriving on scene and there was no indication of the accident’s cause.
