An altercation in a northeast Edmonton casino's parking lot Thursday evening led one man to Servus Credit Union Place, where he was treated for several stab wounds.
Edmonton Police Service spokesperson Scott Pattison said the altercation took place at Century Casino on Fort Road, but emergency personnel were alerted after a bystander transported the victim to the St. Albert fitness facility.
"There was an altercation between three men. A 25-year-old man … eventually stabbed the 37-year-old male and he sustained a deep stab wound to his upper arm, a slash to his lower back and another deep knife wound to the back of his thigh," he said, adding the injuries were non life-threatening.
The third male, who was in a vehicle with the victim prior to the stabbing, is believed to have transported the victim to Servus Place.
Pattison said there is no indication why he was taken here.
"As the victim has been fairly uncooperative with police, our information is limited," he said. "Obviously, something was going on in the parking lot of that casino, but we're unaware of what actually transpired."
It is not known when the stabbing occurred, but the two men entered Servus Place shortly after 8 p.m.
"It happened all very quickly," said Diane Enger, facility director. "Staff responded to the emergency first, so providing first aid and calling 911 and then from there the RCMP took over."
She said staff had very little conversation with the two men.
In a press release sent out Friday, the City of St. Albert reassured residents that Servus Place remains a safe facility for recreational pursuits.
Ron Rose went to Servus Place to watch basketball and when leaving, he saw a man being rolled out of the facility's front entrance on a stretcher.
"We were leaving Servus Place about 8 p.m. last night and a police cruiser pulled out right in front of us," he said.
Police would not say if the victim is known to them. Pattison said no charges have been laid. The investigation is ongoing.
St. Albert RCMP are not investigating the stabbing, as it occurred within Edmonton boundaries.
