St. Albert resident dies from COVID amid drop in hospitalizations: province

Another St. Albert resident has died from COVID-19, according to the province.

Provincial data, current from Feb. 16, shows the number of people in St. Albert who have died from the virus increased to 67 on Feb. 16, up from the 66 reported on Tuesday.

The number of active COVID cases in St. Albert dropped to 266 on Feb. 16, compared to 299, as reported on Tuesday.

Provincial data showed Sturgeon Country had 110 active cases of the virus on Feb. 16, down by 14 since the last report, with no new deaths (17 to date).

Morinville's active COVID cases fell to 38 as reported on Feb. 16, compared to 48 cases reported on Tuesday, with no new COVID deaths in the town (14 to date).

Provincial numbers reported Feb. 16 indicated a drop in hospitalizations in Alberta to 1,491 people in hospital with the virus, down from 1,538 reported on Tuesday. The number of people in ICU had also fallen to 116, down from the 123 reported on Tuesday.

The total number of people who have died from COVID Alberta-wide increased by 32 since Tuesday, bringing the total number of people to have died from the virus to 3,822.

The province reported an overall drop in active COVID cases and also a drop in the positivity rate.

Province-wide active COVID cases had fallen to 16,551, as reported on Thursay, compared to 19,050 reported on Tuesday.

The positivity rate was 27.06 per cent, a drop from 28.85 reported by the province on Tuesday.
