Insp. Kevin Murray, a 23-year veteran of the RCMP, has been named the new detachment commander for St. Albert. His starting date will be announced once his relocation arrangements are worked out.

“We are extremely honoured to have Inspector Murray come to Alberta to lead the RCMP in St. Albert,” said acting city manager Chris Jardine.

“Inspector Murray is a well-respected officer, brings a wealth of experience to his role and is excited to get involved in our community and work with our residents.”

Murray comes to St. Albert from his post as staff sergeant in Port Alberni, B.C. He replaces Insp. Warren Dosko, who held the St. Albert post for almost five years before moving to become superintendent in Red Deer last November.

“I am honoured to have been chosen to take the helm and lead the dedicated members and staff of St. Albert detachment,” Murray said.

“This appointment is, without doubt, the highlight of my 23-year career in the RCMP. I look forward to connecting with the citizens of St. Albert as we collectively tackle community safety challenges that many communities face. Public safety is a cornerstone of strong, vibrant and progressive Canadian cities like St. Albert.”

Murray grew up on a farm near Carman, Man., about 90 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg. He was sworn into the RCMP in February 1989. He was posted to E Division (B.C.) out of training and spent the majority of his 23 years service there. His postings include Prince George (1989), McBride (1993), Kimberley (1996), Gold River (2002), Port Alice (Cpl, 2005) and Port Alberni since 2008.
