Police have arrested two St. Albert residents after investigating a mass mail-box break-in at an area apartment complex.
St. Albert RCMP announced Jan. 4 they had arrested St. Albert residents Crystal Loos, 37, and Cameron Evans, 48.
St. Albert RCMP Cpl. Morgan Kyle said police investigated a series of mailbox break-ins at a St. Albert apartment complex in early December 2021. She would not specify which one.
Working with the apartment’s property management company, which provided surveillance video, police determined a suspect had broken into and damaged about three dozen of the building’s indoor mailboxes over two weeks.
Kyle said police searched a residence in St. Albert on Dec. 16, where they recovered mail and parcels addressed to multiple St. Albert residents, within which were credit cards, banking information, and other personal documents. Police also seized a replica handgun, methamphetamine, cannabis, and an additional substance now being tested in a lab.
Kyle said police were contacting the owners of the mail, documents, and parcels seized during the search so they could be returned.
Kyle said Loos and Evans have been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of property obtained by crime worth under $5,000. Loos has also been charged with mail theft, mischief under $5,000, and possession of a forged document, stolen credit cards, identity documents not in her name, and a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Loos and Evans have been released from custody with conditions and are set to appear in St. Albert Provincial Court on Feb. 7.
