The St. Albert Painters Guild will exhibit the work of three local artists this month at the Bookstore on Perron Street.
The three are Carmella Haykowski, who mainly paints, with forays into printmaking; Claudette Pelletier-Hannah, an acrylics and media painter; and Luise Mendler-Johnson, who works with watercolour and acrylic paints.
This exhibition will showcase the artists' passion for their work.
"I became obsessed (with art) once I learned to paint," Pelletier-Hannah said. "I don't think I've gone more than a couple weeks without painting in over 10 years. I am mostly inspired by flowers, gardens, grass, meadows, and vegetation."
Mendler-Johnson urged St. Albertans to experience the exhibition.
"I believe visitors will enjoy each artist’s unique style and how well the works display together as a group show," she said. "All three of us love colour and project a joyful vibe in our art, but interpret our subjects in a distinctly personal way."
The artists are excited to share their work, but they also hope to inspire people to become artists themselves.
"I would encourage anyone interested in art to pursue their creativity, take classes, join art groups and seek out other creatives," Mendler-Johnson said. "Artists are a friendly, supportive tribe, and creating art is fun and therapeutic."
"If you're interested in creating art just start," Pelletier-Hannah said. "It doesn't matter if you pick up a pencil, pen, or a brush. Don't judge. Just play."
The St. Albert Painters Guild has teamed up with the St. Albert Visual Arts Studio Association (VASA) to host an opening night reception featuring the artists. The reception will take place on Aug. 1 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Bookstore on Perron Street.
There will be joint passports provided to people who attend the exhibitions at both VASA and The Bookstore on Perron Street. These give attendees a chance to win original pieces of art donated by VASA and the St. Albert Painters Guild artists.
The exhibition will run from Aug. 1-29 at The Bookstore on Perron Street.
