A St. Albert man was found guilty in the death of 25-year-old Edmontonian woman nearly three years after her death.

A 12-person jury found Hunter Duncan guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Breianna Schamber on Dec. 2 at the Court of King’s Bench in Edmonton.

The jury had no recommendations for Duncan’s parole eligibility.

As reported by the Gazette, Schamber was found dead inside her home near 35 Ave. and 107 St. in Edmonton's Duggan neighbourhood on Dec. 3, 2019. An autopsy report had determined Schamber had died by strangulation.

On June 11, 2020, the Edmonton Police Service announced they had charged Duncan, who was 23 at the time, with the second-degree murder in the death of Schamber, seven months after she had been found.

At the time of Duncan’s arrest, EPS spokesperson, Scott Pattison, said in an email that her death was not related to domestic violence.

Duncan has a criminal record dating back to 2016. He had been previously sentenced for arson, assault, mischief, theft, and unlawful confinement.

He was denied bail for the second-degree murder charge in March 2021.

Duncan will appear at the Court of King’s Bench on Jan. 6, 2023, to schedule a date for sentencing.
