The Landrex Water Play Centre at Servus Place is scheduled for its annual spruce-up, starting May 22 and running until May 28. The aquatic centre will re-open to the public on May 29.
Sharleen Edwards, the city’s aquatic services manager, said most of the work will be routine in nature, but will also include replacing the floor in the sauna, inspecting and repairing the two water slides and changing out some of the partitions in the change rooms. Other work will include general painting and grout work. The tot pool and whirlpools will also be drained and cleaned.
“This does happen every year and we generally try to keep it in May,” Edwards said.
Both yearly and monthly pass holders will be able to use Fountain Park during the time the pools at Servus are closed, Edwards said.
Those looking for a refreshing splash of cool water can head down to the Woodlands Water Play Park as of today. The free aquatics playground opens at 9:45 and will be open until 8:15 throughout the summer. There have been no major renovations or changes to the park since last summer, Edwards said.
“Just in general, there’s general maintenance work to make sure everything is working.”
The dryland park installed just last year will also be open.
And for those who enjoy both swimming and the outdoors, Grosvenor Pool will be ready for crowds on May 26. Hours for the pool will be noon until 9 p.m. from May 26 until the pool closes for the season in late summer or early fall.
“We just painted a little bit of fun on the deck — a few sea creatures but other than that it’s like all the regular maintenance to make sure it is clean and ready for use.”
Servus annual and monthly pass holders will also be able to use their cards at Grosvenor.
Edwards is calling on all lane swimmers to try churning out their morning laps at Grosvenor, which will be open for lane swimming from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. The warm water coupled with the outdoors and quiet atmosphere make for a unique experience, she said.
“It’s quiet and the water’s warm. It’s beautiful.”
