This year's edition of the Rooftop Campout raised more than $47,000 for Muscular Dystrophy Canada, besting its goal of $20,000. It even beat its campaign total from last year by several thousand dollars.

Firefighter and co-organizer Adam Colameco praised the generosity of St. Albertans who stopped by Fire Hall #2 to fill the boot with donations.

"There is such a strong community of giving in St. Albert and around the region," says Colameco. "Businesses and residents go above and beyond to provide hope and support to those who are fighting muscular dystrophy."

St. Albert's firefighters also held fundraisers at Save-On Foods, Safeway and East Side Mario's. The ever-popular online silent auction also ended on Feb. 28.

All the money stays in St. Albert and will be used to improve the quality of life for people with neuromuscular disorders by purchasing mobility equipment, providing support services and funding research.

St. Albert Firefighters have been actively involved with Muscular Dystrophy Canada since 1971.

Pub night helps Little Warriors

The Celtic Knot Pub attracted a fine crowd on Saturday during a fundraiser for an Edmonton-based charity.

"It was packed!" exclaimed co-organizer Eva Scrimshaw. "We packed the house! We were just so happy with the turnout."

The event raised approximately $4,000 for Little Warriors, a non-profit organization that offers services and training for the prevention of childhood sexual abuse. It is currently in the middle of a campaign to raise $3.4 million for the Be Brave Ranch, a one-of-a-kind facility that would serve as a live-in therapeutic centre for survivors.

Scrimshaw thanked the pub for the use of the space, all of the attendees and supporters, including REND, the band from Morinville that provided the entertainment.

"The band was absolutely amazing and it was just a wonderful night," she continued. "It was very successful. I'm very happy with the turnout. We exceeded what we were hoping for."
