St. Albert RCMP found cash, cocaine and a stun gun in a raid in the Lacombe Park area over the weekend.
Officers searched the home on Sunday and found two men living inside. The officers seized a small amount of cocaine, the electric stun gun and a slapjack, a weighted leather club-type weapon.
Officer also found small digital scales, plastic baggies and “score sheets” that police believe related to drug transactions, as well as nearly $900 in cash.
Const. Janice Schoepp said officers did not find a large enough quantity of drugs to charge anyone with trafficking, but they believe the cash is the result of drug transactions.
“There weren’t enough drugs to support the charge that way.”
Justin Bradley Guffei, 31, has been charged with simple possession of cocaine, possession of the proceeds of crime, careless storage of a prohibited device, possession of a prohibited device without holding a license and three counts of breaching his bail conditions.
Schoepp said charges against the second man in the house are still possible.
Guffei was held overnight and made a first court appearance Monday morning at the St. Albert courthouse. He applied for bail and offered to put up cash to secure his release and through his lawyer he told the court he had steady work, which he could return to.
After a brief hearing Judge Brian Fraser released Guffei on $2,000 cash bail. He will also be required to report regularly to the RCMP and to abstain from drugs and alcohol.
