The RCMP is looking for more information after a 21-year-old man was assaulted while out walking his dog last week.

The man called police about 45 minutes after the incident, which appears to have happened at about 3 a.m. last Friday.

The 21-year-old told police he was out walking his dog on a footpath between Alpine Boulevard and Hebert Road when an unknown number of suspects attacked him.

He said the suspects had been hiding in the bushes along the trail before jumping out and assaulting him.

The man suffered a chipped tooth and some swelling on his face sustained during the attack. The suspects fled the area after attacking him.

St. Albert RCMP Cpl. Laurel Kading said the victim has been unable to give police much information about the attack. He was unable to provide a description of his attackers or even the number of people who assaulted him.

She said police would need much more information.

“We are looking for anyone who saw or heard or heard anyone else talking about anything in relation to this.”

Kading said she can’t remember a single other incident like this one and she does not believe there is any reason for the public to be concerned.

“It is a very rare occurrence,” she said. “We don’t think that this is something that we think people should be concerned about, but we are asking for people who might be able to shed some light on it.”

Anyone with any information on the incident is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or the St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700.

Crime Stoppers is an anonymous service and does not ask or expect callers to provide their names. They also issue rewards of up to $2,000.
