Sturgeon County residents who live in the vicinity of the highways 37 and 44 intersection may be wondering what all the construction is about. It turns out it’s oilpatch-related.

Pembina Pipeline Corporation has a project currently under construction at that intersection, noted Jason Fydirchuk, advisor of public relations for the company.

He said the project is part of a pipeline expansion related to a system that extends to the Peace country. Five pump stations are being installed and five are being refurbished. The station at the corner of Highway 37 and Highway 44 is one of the new ones, but is being built at an existing riser, noted Fydirchuk.

He said the system carries gas liquids and crude oil. The construction is being performed by a contractor, not Pembina directly.

The station should be operational in November. Fydirchuk said Pembina conducted a public awareness campaign in 2011, notifying all nearby landowners of the project.
