Police are looking for help from the public after someone fired a pellet gun and broke the front window of a Woodlands home on Thursday.
Sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. the shot went through the window of a home on Westwood Drive. The shot created a large hole but didn’t shatter the window.
Police don’t believe the home was targeted and think the act might have been done by someone who didn’t realize the weapon was capable of doing such damage, said St. Albert RCMP Cpl. Laurel Kading.
“It is possible this could have been someone playing around or seeing what happens with a pellet gun,” she said.
No one was hurt, but Kading said the potential was there and the police are eager to identify the suspect.
“This kind of thing frightens people, shakes them up, makes them think about what could have happened,” she said.
Police are seeking neighbours who might have noticed anyone carrying a pellet gun or people hanging out in the area.
Kading said the weapons are sometimes perceived as toys, but they can do real damage.
“A lot of people think pellet guns are harmless and don’t realize they can do a fair amount of damage if improperly used,” she said.
She encouraged owners to make sure their weapons are used responsibly.
“It needs to be locked and put away if you are not around to make sure it is safely used.”
