Thousands of Albertans flocked to the legislature Monday and Tuesday to pay their final respects to former premier Peter Lougheed, who died last Thursday at the age of 84.
A steady stream of people viewed Lougheed’s flag-draped casket lying under the Alberta legislature rotunda as Mounties in red serge and provincial sheriffs in navy blue stood vigil.
Among the many politicians to pay their respects was current premier Alison Redford, left, who returned early from a trade mission to China, Spruce Grove-St. Albert MLA Doug Horner, above, and former premiers Don Getty and Ed Stelmach.
A state memorial has been scheduled for Friday in Calgary.
