No problems with online recreation guide

There will always be people who don’t like change, but apparently Servus Credit Union Place’s move to an online program guide has gone off with few problems.

There will always be people who don’t like change, but apparently Servus Credit Union Place’s move to an online program guide has gone off with few problems.

“I would say the first version of the guide (online) has been quite successful,” said Mark Edwards, business and marketing manager for Servus Place. “The registrations are similar to what we’ve seen in previous years so far.”

This year’s version of the Recreation and Leisure Program Guide for spring and summer, normally printed and distributed in February, was instead provided online only.

Though billed by the city as an environmentally conscious move, it was actually a budget casualty when council asked administration to find $340,000 in savings back in December 2012. Stopping printing the guide saved approximately $45,000.

It also saved 1.75 million sheets of paper.

Edwards said registrations are still ongoing, so there are no hard numbers yet if there has been an impact on registration. He said there have been some concerns but there have been no significant problems that couldn’t be resolved.

“There’s a percentage that prefer the paper version,” Edwards said.

The guide is available at www.recguide.stalbert.ca or at www.servusplace.ca.
