New clinic offers a one-stop-shop for residents

A new medical clinic in St. Albert aims to be a one-stop-shop for all medical needs. The new clinic in the Campbell Business Park is offering both medical and cosmetic care, and will soon be neighbours to a pharmacy and chiropractor.

Local physicians Dr. Sivaprakash Rajoo and Dr. Gonasagran Munsamy bought part of the building at 225 Carleton Dr. and brought Dr. Nicholas Morison onto the team to offer more services at the new Kingsridge Medical Clinic.

Morison says this was done to help residents get all the care they need in one location.

“People get better care and better uniform care when they can always go back to the same location to get the same care for everything they need. So the idea here is to give total care.”

The clinic will offer cosmetic treatment, general medical care, minor surgeries, specialized care and even sleep studies. As a partner of the Primary Care Network, patients will also have access to services such as mental health, seniors’ health and maternity services.

Owners Rajoo and Munsamy will also be leasing part of the building to the pharmacy and chiropractor.

The previous Kingsridge Medical Clinic location at 200 Boudreau Road has been purchased by Dr. Terry Unger’s office next door and will be used to expand the space for that clinic.

Nicole Eisenhauer, office manager of the new Kingsridge Medical Clinic, says the merge and move was a huge step in the right direction.

“It was very small at the old location, we only had three rooms. For them to take on this has been quite a big change. But a good change,” she explains.

“The merge has been a good experience so far, everyone gets along really well,” she says.

Morison, who deals with cosmetic and vein treatments, says moving to the new clinic also created much-needed camaraderie among physicians.

When he first entered the medical field more than 40 years ago, it was common practice for physicians to sit and discuss cases together. This soon changed as doctors began to rent their own practices and work in isolation.

Morison says he opened his practice in Liberton Medical Centre 40 years ago where he worked as the only physician. He says this sometimes created stressful work situations.

“Up until now, if I’ve been unavailable then no one else would be around,” he explains. “Now we’re able to work together, we’re able to share databases, share knowledge and share the stress of giving care.”

He adds that the Liberton Medical Centre was also in need of upgrades, and was having structural issues.

Now the team of physicians will be able to work together in the new location, offering more services and better care for patients.

There are currently five male doctors on staff and there are also two female doctors available by request to provide women’s exams. Eisenhauer says for the next week they could offer same-day appointments depending on how fast doctors are booked.

The clinic is planning to have a pediatrician join their staff in the near future.

Kingsridge Medical Clinic is located across from Canada Post, and aims to be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends. They currently don’t offer walk-ins but Eisenhauer says they’ll consider it once they’re fully up and running.
