New chamber board selected

The St. Albert and District Chamber of Commerce elected its 2015 executive committee and board of directors at a luncheon on Oct. 8. The 2015 executive committee will consist of then past chair Paul Quantz of Quantz Law Group.

The 2015 executive committee will consist of then past chair Paul Quantz of Quantz Law Group. New chair for the chamber will be Barry Bailey of Bailey Event Management.

First and second vice-chairs will be Ken Macrae of Ken Macrae Chartered Accountant and Brian Bachynski, publisher of the St. Albert Gazette. Paulette Godin-Donovan of Scotiabank will return as secretary, while Mark Stoneleigh of ATB Financial is taking on a second term as treasurer.

The new chair will be sworn in at the St. Albert and District Chamber Gala on Feb. 7 at the Enjoy Centre.

Newly-elected chamber directors are Jillian Creech, general manager at St. Albert Centre, Karen Chiasson, co-owner of St. Albert's four McDonald's franchises, Mel Knott of ReMax Real Estate, Don Johnston, president of Johnston Builders, and Garry Wetsch, counsel for Landrex.

Remaining on the board are lawyer Margaret Mrazek, Martha Livingston with Visionary College, Jodie McFadzen of Penzen Limited, and Julian Romanko with the Investors Group, as well as Chris McLeod from Athabasca University and Robert Zechel, owner of Cloud Nine Pajamas.

Appointment

St. Albert & District Chamber of Commerce CEO and president Lynda Moffat was recently appointed president of the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Canada and director on the board of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

Business Awards of Distinction

This year, the chamber will honour 42 nominees at the Small Business Awards of Distinction night at the Arden Theatre.

"That's the most we've ever had," said committee chair Craig Pilgrim.

Farmers' market

The chamber decided to extend its weekly farmers' market until Oct. 11 this year. Saturday will feature the last market of the season with a special Thanksgiving Market.

The market will give visitors an opportunity to "pick up everything (they) need" for a Thanksgiving Day feast.

The 2014 Indoor Christmas Market will begin on Saturday, Nov. 29.
