Morinville has two new ideas for its public face and they want the community’s help in deciding which one to use.

Two proposed town logos can be viewed at www.morinville.ca where a public survey can be filled out to pick a favourite. The online survey will be open until tomorrow for residents to vote.

The first option features several interwoven stylized Ms overtop of the town name and is meant to reflect the stained-glass windows of St. Jean Baptiste Church. The second logo also has a single stylized M, also meant as a reflection on the historic church and then has a sweeping green leaf underneath.

The two signatures were developed earlier this year through a town branding exercise that included several open houses and telephone interviews.

Morinville chief administrative officer Edie Doepker said the town started the branding process because of the need to start marketing the new cultural centre when it opens next year.

The town wanted a new logo to market the cultural centre, but also have it tie in with the broader community.

“We wanted it to fit under the umbrella of the town,” she said.

The town has a coat of arms that is currently used in many places where the new logo will be put in place. Doepker said the coat of arms will still have a place, it just won’t be used for marketing purposes.

“We will keep it for more official and ceremonial purposes that have to do with council.”

To vote on their selection for the proposed logo, residents and other people who have an association with the town can go to the town’s website www.morinville.ca and click on the survey link.

Voting closes on Nov. 11 and the new logo along with all of the new marketing materials will be unveiled at town council’s meeting on Dec. 7.
