One person was killed and another person was injured in a collision on Highway 28 on Friday afternoon.

On Dec. 24 at 1:45 p.m. Morinville RCMP received a report that a southbound car lost control and collided head-on with an SUV travelling northbound south of Sturgeon Road, Township Road 544, according to a press statement.

A person in the car was pronounced dead at the scene. An occupant in the SUV was transported by ground ambulance to an Edmonton-area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigation by an RCMP collision reconstructionist suggests poor road conditions were a contributing factor.

An update will be provided once the investigation is completed.

Traffic was diverted east and west along Township Road 544, and south of the collision at Anthony Henday.

The collision took place between Township Road 542 and Township Road 544 on Highway 28. Morinville RCMP, along with the military police from the Edmonton Garrison and Emergency Medical Services responded to the collision.

The RCMP are advising motorists to drive with caution on rural roads as conditions are poor.
