The Morinville Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the best businesses in town and for the first time, business owners can nominate themselves.
The competition is open to all 152 Morinville Chamber of Commerce members. There are different categories for small, medium, large and home-based businesses, as well as a division for the best not-for-profit agencies.
The decision to allow businesses to self-nominate was simply common sense, said chamber manager Jaye Parrent.
“The businesses were doing that anyway and really, the businesses know what they did. They can outline the reasons they feel their business is worthy of recognition from their peers,” she said.
The Community Service Involvement award is meant to honour businesses, groups or organizations that have contributed to the community either financially or with volunteer efforts. Those honoured do not have to be members of Morinville Chamber of Commerce.
The nomination form states that the nominees for the community service award must have demonstrated a commitment to giving back to the community and they must have “moved the community in a positive manner.”
Nominees for the chamber’s Legacy Award must have demonstrated long-term business success. Size is not a criterion for this category, but the award winner must have long-term growth and job creation plans and, in addition, must have invested and given community service.
All Morinville chamber members were emailed a nomination form last week but forms are also available at www.morinvillechamber.com. The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 9. The nominees will be honoured at the annual Chamber Gala on Oct. 21, which this year has a Roaring ’20s theme.
