A local physiotherapy clinic is adding a medical touch to its patient service.
James Dean, owner of Dynamic Sports Physiotherapy, said the clinic is the first in St. Albert to have two orthopedic surgeons offer on-site consultation to their patients.
Dr. Robert Chan and Dr. David Sheps worked with the clinic for several years but it wasn’t until now that they moved into the same space as the physiotherapists.
“It worked out well and it seemed to be mutually beneficial for them and for us to be in close proximity, working out of the same office,” said Dean.
“If we have a question or they want something specific done with their patients we are both easily accessible in the same office. It’s a really great fit.”
Along with his upper extremity practice at the Sturgeon Community Hospital, Dr. Chan is an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Alberta. He specializes in surgeries from elbow to wrist.
Dr. Sheps serves as the facility medical director at the Sturgeon Community Hospital, where he also cares for traumatic injuries of the shoulder, elbow and wrist.
To accommodate the doctors, the clinic added 800 square feet of space to their existing location at Servus Place.
The physiotherapy clinic now has three private treatment rooms and one curtained treatment room, as well as a larger gym and three new administrative offices.
Dean said he intended to get orthopedic surgeons and sport physicians under one roof since he opened his clinic.
“Having the doctors working with us, it’s unique for St. Albert and some patients will appreciate the fact that we have that,” he said.
“It also increases the patients’ confidence when they know there’s a surgeon right around the corner.”
Dynamic Sports Physiotherapy first opened in 2006 as an expansion for St. Albert based Physical Therapy & Sports Injury Clinic in Tudor Glen.
The clinic celebrated its grand re-opening on Feb. 26.
