James van Damme, former candidate for St. Albert city council, appeared in St. Albert Provincial Court Monday to face two counts of uttering threats and one count of breaching a protection order.
Crown prosecutor Patricia Hankinson requested the matter be put over to Nov. 19 to conduct a psychological assessment.
Hankinson said van Damme was previously denied bail, so he remains in police custody.
His public Facebook wall includes numerous posts that represent a threat to the St. Albert RCMP.
The first post shared on the wall for “Jimmy VanDamme” went up on Friday, Oct. 12 and included a photograph of an RCMP officer.
"U guys are done. See that sun. That white glare is your existence St. Albert RCMP. Come to joeys. I'm waiting for u," the post read.
The only comment under that post – again posted by “Jimmy VanDamme” – read: “tick-tock-tick-tock : Didn't turn yourselves into me, so i guess we will just put you in a box and leave the waterboarding altogether.”
Over the weekend, a handful of other threatening comments were posted by “Jimmy VanDamme.”
"RIP to the St. Albert RCMP," one said.
"Officer Travis may u rest in that box with the Hells Angels. Come 500 feet of me … All Is well. See u a joyes," he wrote, tagging politicians Raj Sherman, Steve Young and Laurie Hawn.
He posted a comment on this post, reading, "Sorry for those that don't know. Officer Travis Collins of the St. Albert RCMP is dead."
He later posted on Facebook that he was a member of the CIA:CSIS and would be holding a press conference on Monday. This press conference did not happen.
Van Damme ran for city council in the 2010 municipal election, placing 10th in a field of 13 candidates.
