Those craving a winter skate before the snow falls can glide along the frozen surface of Big Lake, along the west side of St. Albert.

He's not the only one who plans to enjoy this pre-winter activity.
The Bandit Alternative 11 Cities Tour, an active Facebook event by MSI Marathon Skating group, will take to the ice at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning, Nov. 13, 2021, for a public tour.
Join the group for a 25-kilometre course, with shorter laps on the lake available, too.
MSI Marathon Skating is an international group of marathon speed skaters largely based in North America, according to the Facebook group's description, which shows 382 members.
Group members have been spotted gliding on the lake this week, as a post from Nov. 11 reads: "We got 10 cm thick ice today."
If you plan to strap on the skates and give it a try, please remember to be careful on unmaintained ice and check its thickness before venturing out.
