NAIT is honouring its top 50 alumni of the past five decades and one of them is none other than Mayor Nolan Crouse.

Released earlier this week, the list is a compilation of successful individuals who have graduated from NAIT in the last 50 years. Crouse, who graduated from NAIT’s chemical technology program in 1973, was selected.

“He was actually one of the best well-rounded alumni on the list,” said Erin Kuebler, an advancement relations officer who worked with the committee who selected the final 50 alumni.

Kuebler said the committee was looking for alumni who embodied four main criteria — service, innovation, leadership and were role models. Crouse, she said, met all of those criteria with his work as a hockey coach, his career in politics and his partnership in an entrepreneurship organization.

She said he was nominated by an “external person.” After his original nomination, the committee did its own research, then contacted Crouse for more information.

“I received a letter in the mail about three months ago,” Crouse said. He added he was informed two weeks ago that he had been selected for the final 50 list.

“First of all I’m humbled by it and honoured,” said Crouse.

He noted that NAIT grads are involved in many different elements of society and that the school was trying to reinforce that point by handing out this distinction.

“I think it’s NAIT making sure they reinforce there are so many options for NAIT grads to go in, so many different directions.”

All of the 50 alumni will be honoured at a banquet on Oct. 25. They have also been featured in the school’s technology lifestyle magazine Techlife. All have small biographies that have been posted at www.nait.ca/88284.htm
