A 71-year-old construction worker was killed Saturday while working at Edmonton Garrison.

Alberta Workplace Health and Safety investigators are now looking into the man’s death after he fell from a ladder while working at a building on the site.

Chris Chodan, a spokesperson for Alberta Employment and Immigration, said the man was working in construction for WD Contractors Group Ltd. The work was confined to one of the buildings on the base.

Chodan said the man was standing on a ladder when he fell and landed on his head, suffering what proved a fatal injury.

Chodan did not know what type of work the man was doing, whether he was wearing any type of helmet when he fell or the height of the ladder.

The man was transported to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, but died Friday evening.

Chodan said investigators had been out to the site as part of their investigation. He added that due to privacy regulations, the department cannot reveal the man’s name.

Two other Alberta workers were killed on the job in as many days last week. An oilfield worker was killed Saturday morning on a site near Bonnyville and a contractor was killed near Fort Chipewyan on Thursday night.
