City plants seeds of success at breakfast

Local business owners will have an opportunity to brush up on their marketing efforts next Tuesday during St. Albert business and tourism development’s seventh annual business breakfast.

Local business owners will have an opportunity to brush up on their marketing efforts next Tuesday during St. Albert business and tourism development’s seventh annual business breakfast.

Cidnee Stephen, a Calgary-based marketing expert and the author of a bi-weekly marketing eZine called the Marketing Excel-erator, will present an interactive marketing workshop called ‘Seven steps to marketing success.’

Larry Horncastle, director of business and tourism development, said the event’s theme, “Cultivate success, grow with us,” fits nicely with St. Albert’s botanical brand.

“The whole theme is cultivating success so we’re offering an extra workshop where businesses can come and pick up some marketing tips,” Horncastle said.

“And if they do better, then we all do better.”

Horncastle said this is the first time the city has offered a workshop during the business breakfast.

“We’re trying to support business, making sure that they’re more profitable,” he said.

Also during the breakfast, Mayor Nolan Crouse will discuss St. Albert’s branding initiative and how it’s been working for the city.

“He’ll be talking about successes in 2010 and what our plans are going forward in 2011,” said Horncastle, who will also be giving a presentation during the event.

The morning session will also see the city announce the first-ever Asset Champion Awards for Business. According to the city’s website, local businesses that go above and beyond to treat their young customers and young employees with respect are eligible for this award.

“It’s all about celebrating success and cultivating success in our community,” said Horncastle.

“This is an opportunity for the business community to come out and hear what’s happening in St. Albert.”

Tickets for the St. Albert Business Breakfast 2011 are $20 and include full breakfast and workshop.

Horncastle said tickets are selling fast and must be purchased in advance since none will be sold at the door.

The event happens on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at St. Albert Inn & Suites. Breakfast will be served between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and the workshop runs from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Call 780-459-1631 for tickets.
