Two mayoral candidates and 16 councillor candidates will vie for spots at the St. Albert council table.
The official candidate list has Shelley Biermanski and incumbent Nolan Crouse squaring off for the mayor’s seat, a repeat of their 2010 showdown.
Meanwhile, only six of the 16 council candidates will be able to serve on council. The 16 candidates are: Roger Bradley, Wes Brodhead, Hughena Burke, Mark Cassidy, David Climenhaga, Ted Durham, John Goldsmith, Norm Harley, Cathy Heron, Sheena Hughes, Gareth Jones, Cam MacKay, Tim Osborne, Malcolm Parker, Gilles Prefontaine and Bob Russell.
Brodhead, Heron, MacKay and Parker are incumbents from the current council and some of the other candidates have run or served as councillors before.
The field of 16 is higher than the 2010 and 2007 elections, when 13 candidates ran for council. In 2004 there was an even larger field, with 21 councillor candidates running.
Most of the candidates had made their intentions known prior to nomination day. On Sept. 23, candidates or their representatives filed their nomination papers in the east boardroom at St. Albert Place between 8 a.m. and noon. The list was made available to the media once nominations closed.
Candidates have 24 hours to withdraw their names, which means the list will be formalized after noon on Sept. 24.
