There’s a great way for St. Albert and area residents to cleanse their auto and fight an insidious disease at the same time: the 10th annual Carstar Soaps It Up National Car Wash.
“On Saturday, June 8, St. Albert residents are invited to come on out for the 10th annual Carstar Soaps It Up National Car Wash to shine up their dirty cars in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada,” noted Alexandra Siklos, spokesperson.
Carstar, which has helped raise more than $2 million to help fight cystic fibrosis over the past 10 years, will host the charity car wash at its St. Albert location
According to Cystic Fibrosis Canada (St. Albert), CF is a multi-system disease that affects mainly the lungs and the digestive system and is the most common fatal genetic disease that affects Canadian children and young adults.
Each week in Canada, two children are diagnosed with cystic fibrosis and one person dies from the disease. There is no cure. Ultimately, most CF-related deaths are due to lung disease.
Funds raised at events like the car wash are used for treatment or research. Treatments include medications such as mucolytics to loosen lung mucus so it can be coughed up more easily, airway clearance therapy, nutrition aids such as pancreatic enzyme supplements to help digest and absorb nutrients and organ transplantation, which may help some sufferers of CF.
Research funded by events such as the St. Albert car wash include focusing on what goes wrong in the cell and how it can be fixed, developing treatments for the symptoms and complications of the disease and insights into other diseases; CF is complex, and research into CF could uncover discoveries about other conditions.
Car wash tickets can be purchased at Carstar St. Albert located at 2 Riel Dr., just off Winston Churchill Ave., or by visiting www.carstar.ca/soapsitup.
