Q: What was your primary motivation to seek elected office?
1. Sharing my passion for youth and their education.
2. Supporting public education as it prepares students to become productive citizens and contributing members of their communities.
3. Ensuring that our district’s students continue to excel in academics, particularly in literacy and numeracy, while thriving in learning environments that are safe, inclusive and healthy.
4. Collaborating with provincial politicians to influence funding and policy making, and to ensure that education remains high on the list of government priorities.
Q: What skills and experiences have prepared you for this office??
1. I am honoured to have served as a trustee with St. Albert Public Schools for four years, and I have been board chair for the past two years.
2. I am proud of my work in the areas of educational goal setting, policymaking, budgeting, and advocating.
3. My strong work ethic and attention to detail ensure that I am well-informed on all issues.
4. I have a Master's degree in Education, and have served as an associate superintendent for six years, an elementary school principal for 10 years, and a high school teacher/department head for 20 years.
Q: What do you think are the most important issues to the community at large?
1. The St. Albert community wants our schools to prepare students to participate successfully in the global community through active citizenship and with proficient work skills.
2. Our community wants competent staff in our schools, delivering high quality programming which recognizes and values diversity, and the personal growth of all students.
3. Community members want effective stakeholder engagement so the public can be heard and respected in the decision-making process of its school board. Accountability and transparency are absolutely essential in the work of trustees as they set goals and develop policies.
Q: What specific goals will you work to achieve if elected?
1. Provide an excellent educational experience for each student.
2. Support all district staff through high quality professional development opportunities and through school and district initiatives designed to enhance morale and staff wellness.
3. Engage strategically with Alberta Education to ensure that government develops appropriate policy and legislation, and that government provides adequate funding, along with new schools and modernizations.
4. Ensure that students, parents, staff and community members are heard and respected in the decision-making process.
