Opening delayed Italian Bakery’s Mercato had big plans to open this weekend, but has pushed back their opening date to the end of September. The St. Albert location is being spearheaded by grocery connoisseur and resident Adamo Rossi. He says construction delays have caused a six-week holdup on opening. “The development has been good, but construction has always been a bit delayed,” he says. When the doors open, the 10,000 square-foot shop will feature fresh breads, pastries, local produce, Denominazione d’ Origine Protetta Tomatoes and extra virgin olive oil. Time to celebrate A quarter-century celebration is in the works for Sparklean Restoration. The 25-year anniversary celebration is taking place today in the back parking lot of the store. Dash Rip Rock will be performing live music while attendees can sip on wine, beer and pop while biting into freshly flipped burgers. The business specializes in restoration and cleaning. They offer services for flood and fire restoration, mould and asbestos treatment and professional cleaning services. Mike Howes, president of the company, says his favourite memory since opening 25 years ago occurred after completing fire restoration work. He says he received “a big hug from a little girl I had never met because we cleaned her teddy bear that she thought was lost in a fire.” When it comes to business, he says the motto has adapted over the years to "your restoration specialists." “My dad always said it doesn’t matter if you’re a basket weaver, just be the best one. So we strive every day, through innovation and training, to be the best in our industry,” he says. The event takes place from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
