Morinville RCMP found human remains after extinguishing a fire on Monday in Sturgeon County.
RCMP made the discovery after they arrived at an oil lease site on Township Road 580 between Range Road 243 and Range Road 244 on Monday. In a news release sent out Nov. 23, Const. Cheri-Lee Smith said the circumstances surrounding the fire are believed to be suspicious.
The Alberta RCMP major crime unit is now investigating, and the remains are being transported to the office of the chief medical examiner who will work with the RCMP to confirm the person's identity and cause of death.
The RCMP major crime unit is asking witnesses of the fire, anyone in the area, or anyone who has dash camera footage from between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Nov. 22 to contact Morinville RCMP at 780-939-4520, or their local police.
