A St. Albert man who was charged with attempted murder has been granted bail. On Monday Daniel Truong, 28, was released on bail with strict conditions and a $20,000 no-cash bond. Truong will have to abide by a strict curfew from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Truong has been charged with attempted murder after a 33-year-old was seriously assaulted during an incident on Everitt Drive. Truong also faces aggravated assault , drug and weapons charges. On Sunday Nov. 19 around 12:30 p.m. the RCMP were called to an altercation near Lois E. Hole Elementary School. It was reported that two men were in distress. The RCMP found two men needing medical attention and they were both taken to the hospital. The investigation said the altercation may have started at a residence located on Edinburgh Court and then moved out onto Everitt Drive. The St. Albert Fire Department responded to the scene and assisted with containment and cleanup. The area was closed to the public until 7 p.m. on Sunday night. RCMP say the accused and the victim knew each other. RCMP are confident that the victim was targeted, that this was not a random act and that the public is not at risk. Truong is facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance. On Nov. 27 Truong faced charges of driving with a disqualified license and was given a conditional sentence order of three months followed by six months of probation. In 2012, Truong was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and obstructing a police officer. He was sentenced to two years in prison in 2014 and was handed a 10-year firearm prohibition. He was also charged with possession of property under $5,000 and giving fraudulent information to avoid prosecution but both of the charges were withdrawn. Truong will appear in the St. Albert provincial court on Jan. 15, 2018.
