St. Albert resident Connie Parenteau, and Sturgeon County resident Brian Pearse were elected president-elect and vice-president, respectively, for The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
The election was held Saturday at the Summit Annual General Meeting and Conference in Edmonton.
Created in 1920, APEGA is an organization of approximately 73,000 members. APEGA monitors engineering and geo-science practices in Alberta, and the organization itself is at the forefront of technological innovation.
Parenteau, P.Eng. graduated from the University of Alberta in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. Parenteau retired from Telus Communications after 33 years, in which she worked on well-known initiatives such as Telus TV, next generation networks, and served as the manager of the Telus graduate engineer program. Parenteau still serves as a mentor to graduated engineers.
Parenteau is actively involved with community affairs, and non-profit organizations such as Edmonton’s food bank and Meals on Wheels.
“It’s very informative to understand the organizations and community, who uses it, and how important it is,” Parenteau said on the importance of her experience with non-profit organizations.
In 1993 she received the Early Accomplishment Summit Award, an honour that recognizes achievements and accomplishments early in an APEGA member’s professional career.
Parenteau has been elected president-elect for the 2015-2016 term. With this nomination she brings a wealth of knowledge after serving as vice-president for the 2013 term, and having served for APEGA for a total of six years. In her leadership Parenteau intends to uphold APEGA’s reputation.
“We will continue to be leaders, uphold our professional practices, and increase safety to the public,” says Parenteau.
Parenteau has raised a family and been a St. Albert resident for 29 years.
“I’m very proud of our community,” Parenteau says.
Brian Pearse, P.Eng., of Sturgeon County, graduated from the University of Alberta in 1986 with his Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural engineering. In 1988 he became a professional engineer and continued his education in civil engineering in 1989. In 2006 Pearse became the vice-president of engineering for consulting company Stewart Weir, and in 2010 became their president and CEO.
In 2013 Stewart Weir consisted of approximately 500 people and then merged with Opus International Consultants, which consisted of 2500 people globally, to become Opus Stewart Weir. Pearse is the current president of Opus Stewart Weir.
