All candidates confirmed for Tuesday forum

Interest is keen in next week’s all-candidates forum, which will include both mayoral hopefuls and all 13 candidates seeking one of six seats on city council, said organizer Lynda Flannery.

“We’re getting a sense that there’s a fairly good level of interest,” Flannery said.

All the candidates have confirmed their attendance, she said.

The forum will allow the public to pose their own questions directly to candidates. A two-person media panel will be on hand to fill any lulls and an experienced moderator will maintain order, she said.

Flannery is president of the St. Albert Taxpayers’ Association, which is presenting the forum. But she stressed the event has no agenda attached to it.

“We’ve bent over backwards to ensure that it’s in the hands of independent third parties,” she said.

“What we want to accomplish is to get candidates’ thoughts out there on issues that the audience is saying is of concern to them,” Flannery added. “The other thing it does is it informs the candidates what’s on peoples’ minds so it’s a two-way conversation.”

The forum is at 7 p.m. at the Arden Theatre on Tuesday, Sept. 28 and is scheduled to last up to three hours.

“We just hope that people will show up,” Flannery said. “We hope that they will bring a question with them.”
