Everybody always makes a big deal on Mother’s Day. Strangely, Father’s Day is traditionally more subdued.

Chef Reggie is going all out with a Father’s Day Jazz Brunch starring vocalist Barbara Leah Meyer on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The 18-dish buffet table ranges from Alberta Cowboy Pancakes and breakfast eggs and meats to varied entrees such as pulled pork, hushpuppies, Peking ginger beef, butter chicken, spaghetti, roast potatoes and veggies. Oh yes, and dessert features fruit, pastries and creamy coconut dream pie. The adult charge is $25.95, seniors receive a 10 per cent discount and for children under 10 it is $13.95. A Father’s Day Wine Dinner is served starting at 5 p.m. The scrumptious three-course dinner features a choice of three appetizers, either a broiled triple-A T-bone steak and fixings or a fillet of salmon wrapped in phyllo pastry, and a dessert. The price is $39.95.

Chef Daniel is also offering both a Canadian-style brunch and an evening dinner. At the Sunday brunch, running 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., tables with four or more will receive a half-price meal on the a la carte menu. Prices range from $12 avocado toast to $23 for steak and eggs. The dinner menu served from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. features a prime rib with traditional Yorkshire pudding. The price is $25.

Because of the large numbers of fathers on staff, San Remo will be closed on Sunday. However, they are presenting various hearty Father’s Day specials on Saturday night from 4:30 p.m. to 10 pm. The taste of Italy starts with the delicate appetizer truffle arancini balls. The primi are two pasta features. The first is linguini Mediterraneo, basically a seafood medley. The second is rigatoni tossed with baby shrimp and lobster in a vodka rose sauce. The two secondi feature a marinated and grilled veal T-bone served with penne in a wild mushroom sauce as well as pollo (chicken) a la San Remo, stuffed, lightly fried and baked with a veggies and homemade gnocchi.

Sorrentino’s just rolled out its summer menu in time for Father’s Day. Included are a few he-man dishes such as a mixed grill of marinated and grilled lamb chops, chicken, Italian sausage served with a fennel arugula salad. Price is $28. There’s also the Shroomer Patio Burger going for $24. The eight-ounce sirloin grilled meat patty is served with sautéed mushrooms and goat cheese. And then there’s the Napoli Salad, a mix of grilled calamari and prawns on top of a bed of baby spinach, fennel and baby tomatoes. It clocks in at $18.

Taste of Ukraine offers a three-course dinner with an appetizer choice of salad or borscht soup. The main entrée is pyrohy filled with braised short ribs and topped with a hearty wild mushroom beef gravy. On the side are cabbage rolls in tomato sauce with a haystack of garlic curly fries. Dessert is creamy strawberry cheesecake. Price is $36.95.

Chef Rino is serving his traditional a la carte menu with a special prime rib feature served with potatoes and fresh seasonal vegetables. In addition, XIX is offering an optional tasting of four different whiskies for $20. The four whiskeys are 12-year-old Glenfarcals single malt, Johnnie Walker Blue, Oban Scotch Whisky and Kentucky's Woodford Reserve Scotch Whiskey.
