If you're planning to do some fresh produce shopping at the St. Albert Farmers' Market today then you should maybe add a yellow ribbon to the list.
Today is Yellow Ribbon Day and that means that the Edmonton Garrison's Military Family Resource Centre will be set up in stall #5 selling yellow ribbons in exchange for donations to the organization. Market vendors will proudly display yellow ribbon on their booths.
For more than 25 years, the family resource centre has been serving the families of all military personnel with supports, resources, programs and services to meet their unique needs and challenges. It offers childcare, deployment support, and short-term counselling. There is also a Navigator program for families with disabilities.
The facility is for its extended military family of more than 6,000 members.

Packing the Park for charity
Philanthropy isn't the name of a new fish dish at Sushi Park. The Japanese restaurant is hosting a fundraiser for the MS Society on Monday evening with great food from a custom menu created for this night only. There will be live jazz music and a silent auction as well.
"The restaurant is happy to be doing this to be involved in the community and to support charity to help with the cause," said organizer Aulden Maj-Pfleger. He is a cook and server at the establishment but also works with the MS Society. "This event brings two really great things together: fundraising and great local food."
The dinner is included in the ticket price and all other proceeds will go towards the MS Society to help cure Canada's disease.
Tickets are $50 at the door from 9 to 10:30 p.m. on Monday July 31 only, or on eventbrite.ca under the event: "Pack the Park." Seating is limited. Sushi Park is located at 9 St. Anne St.
Ice Cream Run a hit
Organizers with the Gorilla Run put on a new and unique fun run and walk last week that saw nearly 400 people hitting the trails for free ice cream. The aptly named Edmonton Ice Cream Run raised funds for veterinary students who will directly impact the survival of the mountain and lowland gorillas in Africa. Hundreds participated in the event starting in Edmonton's River Valley.
"It was great," enthused St. Albert organizer Raemonde Bezenar. "A perfect summer event."
She gave huge thanks to sponsor Chapman's Ice Cream for providing approximately 650 bowls of ice cream to the appreciative and hot crowd.
