The hunt is on for wacky repairmen with a bizarre sense of home improvement.
Are you an inventive handyman? Someone who comes up with weird solutions to simple home repairs?
Possibly you’ve glued linoleum as a kitchen backsplash. Or perhaps you’ve used warrantied shingles in your foyer? And then there’s duct tape to cover basement cracks. This is my favourite – stringing pop cans for a shower rod.
If you have an innovative style, Mountain Road Productions is looking for your un-handyman jobs.
This Ottawa-based production company has partnered with HGTV to shoot a one-hour special that reveals completely unorthodox and out-of-the-box approaches to home maintenance.
“We’re looking for houses that have eccentric, kooky, unconventional repairs that are jury-rigged in the oddest ways,” says Mountain Road communications manager Margaret Robitaille.
She explains that Mountain Road is hoping to spin the special into a series depending on market response.
Since this new home improvement show is angled for laughs, national comedian Steve Patterson of CBC Radio’s The Debaters will host.
As part of the special, Mountain Road will bring a team of experts to renovate the space at no expense to the homeowner.
“We’re looking for fun-loving people who don’t take themselves too seriously,” says Robitaille adding they plan to start filming at the end of November.
Un-handy homeowner nominations can be emailed to [email protected].
The following information is required – the story behind the fix-it repairs, photos of the eccentric repairs, a photo of you and the not-so-handy person as well as your contact information.
