It takes two to tango but the magic number is three for a new art exhibit in a most unusual location.
Elisabeth Tessier, Val Solash and Louise Piquette have decked the halls at Delton Cabinets. Three Women, Three Friends, Three Artists is a look at their diverse portfolios, although Tessier said that she's still building hers up. That's where the other two came in handy.
"This is a new kind of venue for us," she began. "I don't have enough paintings so I said I'd get some friends together."
Solash and Piquette stepped in to help out. Together, they run the gamut of styles, subjects and media from abstract, landscape to everything in between.
They can all thank Tessier's daughter who works at the business. She was the one who realized how many bare walls were in the hallways and boardrooms at the business. Et voila! An exhibit was born.
"That's how it started… just decorate the place for them. It was a win-win."
Delton Cabinets is located at 13030 146 St. in Edmonton. The opening reception was held on Thursday evening but visitors to the business can ask for viewings.
Lakeside art show
Pigeon Lake is a fine place to be for rest and recreation. One local artist is trying to give it a bit of artistic refinement at the same time.
Doris Charest is lending her creations to help launch the official grand opening of Bay 12 Gallery in the small Alberta summer hotspot 90 minutes southwest of St. Albert. She will be joined by 24 other artists from across the province to celebrate the occasion, the second such business operated by the owners of Caelin Artworks in Wetaskiwin.
She figured that she should offer some appropriate paintings for such a scenic venue: all landscapes.
"Some close-ups of nature, some far away. There's some of my series that's from up above. It's all mixed media, just quite a variety. When she came and picked the work, she took a little bit of everything, I guess," she said. "It's a brand new place. They're hoping to catch a lot of tourists while they're there. This is sort of their dream to have a small gallery in that area. They're pretty excited about it."
The grand opening takes place today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Bay 12 Gallery in the Village is located at 6A Village Drive, RR2 in Pigeon Lake. Call 780-586-2999 or visit www.villageatpigeonlake.com for more information.
