Food, oh divine food. Could you wish for anything more deliciously abundant?
Well, how about a festival that showcases every aspect of the food process from production to preparation to the shared pleasure in savouring a tasty feast.
Unveiled for the first time last year, Dig In! Horticulinary Festival brings together experienced producers, top-tier chefs and keen foodies eager to share their expertise on the latest horticulture and culinary trends.
This buzz-worthy event is taking place at the Enjoy Centre from Oct. 1 to 3 and tickets went on sale Monday.
As expected from a large three-day event, there’s pretty much something for everyone. For starters, there is a new Thursday night walking tour throughout St. Albert’s Perron District.
Economic Development officer Dawn Fedorovich said the intimate tour will stop at various restaurants in the historic district to meet chefs and taste locally sourced food samplings.
Friday night unites six Alberta chefs adding their distinctive touches to Alberta Ate Chef Collaborative Dinner, a six-course experience featuring a special menu and dishes.
For Saturday, last year’s hot pepper eating contest has been replaced by a homemade salsa contest and a hands-free pie eating contest.
“The hot pepper competition was a success, but we wanted to try something different. With these two contests, I think we can get a wider variety of contestants,” noted Fedorovich.
Saturday features a huge information session with nearly 20 demonstrations and hands-on workshops that range from cheese making, fall planting, wine tasting and steakology to seed saving, baking, tasty tapas and cider making.
So get your hands dirty and give this festival a go. Tickets for the walking tour are $50. The gala dinner tickets run at $125 per person and session prices are $25 or three for $60. Visit diginstalbert.ca.
