Strut your stuff at Amplify

If you are an emerging band or a young acoustic musician scouring for a live venue to entertain, then set your sites onto Amplified Youth Festival.

If you are an emerging band or a young acoustic musician scouring for a live venue to entertain, then set your sites onto Amplified Youth Festival.

This inaugural festival, targeted to youth 13 to 21 years, is designed as a celebration of youth arts and culture. It runs October 17 and 18 at St. Albert’s Enjoy Centre.

To make it a true success, organizers are inviting the music community to fill various volunteer entertainment slots.

Operated by St. Albert’s Youth Advisory Committee, the festival is providing two stages. The first is the Loft Stage for small groups or singer-songwriters testing out their acoustic vibe.

It is a quiet, intimate stage and will operate on Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 12 noon to 6 p.m. Slots will be offered on a first come, first served basis.

“We’ve already had a strong response. Although it’s still early, I can say we’re going to have great musicians that day,” said youth festival associate Kathleen Bell.

The second is Show 1.0 slated for the Amplify Stage, a loud and large band stage open Friday night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Show 1.0 aims to bring in more experienced performers eager to play on a large stage with fancy sound checks, flashing lights and the rock star deal.

However, only three slots are available. Both bands and solo artists are welcome to submit a video or a recording of their performances. The audition material will be submitted to the advisory committee and they will make the final selections.

The deadline for Show 1.0 submissions is Sept. 24. Selections will be made the following day and announced on Sept. 26.

“This festival is a great opportunity for youth who want to start performing. If youth feel they are at this stage of their career, this is the spot for them.”
