St. Albert country music artists at 2024 CCMA nominations

Dan Davidson, Travis Nesbitt, Hailey Benedict, Aaron Goodvin, Jackie Rae Greening and Matthew Atkins are nominated from our corner of the country

The 2024 Canadian Country Music Association Awards are set to light up the country music scene at Rogers Place on September 14.

Jade Eagleson and Mackenzie Porter stand a solid chance of taking home a statuette or two as they lead the pack with six nominations apiece. Following closely are the Reklaws and Josh Ross with five nods.

High Valley, Owen Riegling and Dallas Smith are tied with four nominations each. Co-hosting the event are Thomas Rhett, a CMA award winner with 16 No. 1 hits and Mackenzie Porter holding two albums and four Canada Country No. 1 songs.

Joining this elite company are several St. Albert connected recording artists. Dan Davidson, who is prepping for a tour in the United Kingdom at month’s end, is nominated alongside Travis Nesbitt as Designers of the Year for Davidson’s Nineteen Eighty Something album.

Nesbitt is also up for Video Director of the Year and record producer Jeff Dalziel was tipped the hat for Davidson’s, Tim Hicks and Max Jackson’s single Won’t Forget

Davidson, a morning show host at CFCW, has also been tapped to perform at the Legends Show held at the Winspear Centre on Sept. 12.

Hailey Benedict, who just performed at Big Valley Jamboree’s main stage, is showing great breakout potential and is nominated for Breakout Artist of the Year. She finds herself in the elite company of Dax, Teigen Gayse, Matt Lang and Owen Riegling.

Aaron Goodvin, who spent his teenage and young adult years in St. Albert before permanently moving to Nashville, returns to his roots several several times a year. Once again, he’s been nominated Songwriter of the Year along with Catt Gravitt and Skip Black for his song Country Dance

Perhaps the biggest country music booster west of Nashville is Jackie Rae Greening from CFCW. Once again, the larger-than-life St. Albert celebrity is nominated as County Personality of the Year.

Start the drum roll for former St. Albert resident Matthew Atkins who is once again in contention for Drummer of the Year while Matt McKay is in the mix for Steel Guitar Player of the Year.
