A great way to enjoy the Christmas cheer is to join in a good old-fashioned community concert and sing-along.
Held at the Arden Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 14, the traditional St. Albert Ministerial Association concert once again offers a sparkling lineup of soloists, school groups, choirs and light theatre.
Dubbed The True Colours of Christmas, Lt. Peter Kim from the Salvation Army, noted that this year there is a slight difference in programming to the 75-minute festivity.
“It’s different in the sense that last year, different pastors did readings. This year we have children doing the readings. We thought it would be nice to hear the scriptures from a child’s perspective.”
In choosing the concert title, organizers agree that the true colours of Christmas are the coming together of a community.
“We wanted to look at what Christmas was all about. Some people think it’s about money or the tree or everlasting love. And for others it’s about the gold star that led the wise men to the stable,” Kim said.
“For me it’s about our saviour coming and giving joy to the world.”
In addition to the Salvation Army, eight other churches are participating: Christian Reformed Church, St. Albert Parish, Sturgeon Valley Baptist Church, St. Albert Alliance Church, Christ Community Church, Grace Baptist Church, St. Albert United Church and Next Community Church.
“The event really does bring friends, neighbours and churches together. There’s a real spirit of unity among the churches. We’re in the process of becoming a society. When churches can get together and sing despite differences in theologies, it becomes an important testament to the churches – that we are together rather than divided.”
Refreshments of cookies, cider and chocolate will be served.
