It is the beloved Christmas tradition that everyone waits for. Now in its 14th season, A Christmas Carol reopens at the Citadel Theatre tomorrow night and runs until Monday, Dec. 23.
A full scale production with a cast of thousands, it revisits the dark world of Scrooge, a skinflint man of means forced to face a betrayal against himself and those most in need.
Directed by artistic director Bob Baker, the title role is once again reprised by Citadel artistic associate James MacDonald. Joining him is a list of Edmonton’s elite squad of actors – Julien Arnold, Annette Loiselle, Belinda Cornish, Doug Mertz and Ron Pederson.
This year there is also a surprisingly large number of cast members connected to St. Albert. Founding St. Albert Children’s Theatre artistic director Maralyn Ryan reprises her role as Mrs. Dilber, Scrooge’s housekeeper.
Former residents John Kirkpatrick prepares to terrify us as Marley, Scrooge’s deceased business partner, and Nancy McAlear dances onto the stage as Mrs. Fezziwig.
The children’s chorus is also heavily peopled with St. Albert actors. Hailey Benedict, Jevan Godsmark, Sian Godsmark and Conor Meadows don the robes of the poverty stricken Cratchit children.

A blend of puppetry and actors, The Velveteen Rabbit revisits the innocent magic of childhood at Fort Edmonton Park’s Capitol Theatre from Dec. 6 to 24.
In this modern take on the classic children’s tale, Willow and her father dive into her favourite book, The Velveteen Rabbit. And it is through her version of the rabbit’s quest that she comes to understand herself.
